When choosing a breeder, reputation matters—and it goes BOTH ways. A responsible breeder also makes sure you are a reputable buyer.

Before sending a deposit:

Verify a state kennel license through your Department of Agriculture and ask breeder how to do that

Look for a real website & social media presence and real pics

You should be able to visit the kennel (weather permitting)

We allow visits, provide foot covers, and offer video calls but no visits to kennel in winter when its icy

Verify their veterinarian BEFORE sending a deposit (make sure they’re searchable). Ask breeder for name of their vet

Confirm the kennel location on Google Maps

Puppies should have a vet exam report you can verify. Ask for pics of vet exam report

If the price seems low, that’s a red flag. Quality breeding is not cheap.

Scams are everywhere. We constantly hear from people who chose a cheaper option, got scammed, and lost hundreds of dollars.

If someone is pushy or rushing you to send money immediately —STOP

*We do request a deposit to hold a puppy, but we are never pushy. We focus on the right fit, not a quick sale. We can also place you on waiting list without deposit if you are not in a hurry to reserve.

Here at Whiteduck Mountain Kennel We don’t just sell puppies—we protect them and make sure they are going to be in a good home before requesting deposit
